June
23, 2003 Houston, TX, June 18, 2003 –
RedStorm Scientific announced today that it has been awarded Small Business
Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health. The grant
supports the continued design and development of therapeutic protein compounds
effective against the West Nile virus. RedStorm Scientific will use its
FyrestarTM technology to design protein therapeutics that bind to
the virus and interfere with cell infection. The Fyrestar technology uses a
computational platform to accelerate the development of protein therapeutics
by offering unprecedented insight into their thermodynamic character and
solution behavior. The NIH awards SBIR grants to biopharmaceutical companies using a competitive application process. These awards provide companies like RedStorm Scientific an incentive to undertake cutting-edge research projects that may lead to important advances in patient care.
