Extracting Alkaloids From Kratom Powder: Is That Possible?

For many years, the purest forms or herbs are a part of healing practices around the world. It’s not just one name, but almost all green solutions follow the same. For Kratom, getting this pure form was not very easy. Kratom was long in the dark on the legal challenges and pleasuring traits.

Only a century ago, Kratom was again in front of the world in the form of herbal alternatives to medicines and supplements. For the intense effect, the Kratom needs a higher amount of alkaloids. Let’s see if this extraction is even possible in the case of Kratom or not.

Differences between Kratom powder and pure Kratom

Now that you already know what Kratom is and how beneficial it is for the health, the next in line is its various forms. Kratom, in all its manifestations, is magical, which doesn’t need a certification.

Talking about the Kratom powder, it is nothing special but just the fine powder of dry Kratom leaves. The manufacturers arrange for the fresh leaves, which are either sun-dried or through chemical processing of moisture lost.

Drying under the sun is the traditional practice, but it has a risk of product loss due to the tropical-temperate climate of Southeast Asia. After completing drying, the leaves of Kratom are finely ground to make a smooth powder. This product is what you see at major Kratom stores as Kratom powder.

On the other side, Kratom is also available in pure form. The pure form may have an impact that there is an impure or contaminated form too. But the pure form is the word for enhanced Kratom powder, which is possible in the modern world. It is the regular Kratom powder; only its effects are a lot higher.

What are the advantages of pure Kratom extract?

The main benefits of using pure Kratom are as follows.

  • It ensures better effects.
  • It takes a little amount to work.
  • It is better for experienced users.
  • It has more benefits of Kratom.

What are Kratom alkaloids and what they do?

Kratom alkaloids are the constituents of the Kratom tree, which gives it all the benefits. These alkaloids are biologically active compounds that work to induce specific bodily changes. For example, we call Kratom as an opioid which mimics the working of opiates.

It attaches to the opioid binding sites and governs specific mechanisms. In this way, one should realize that alkaloids are which the soul is of Kratom. Without alkaloids, Kratom will not be functional.

There are 40 compounds out of which 25 alkaloids. There are more that are not discovered yet. Out of all these alkaloids,

Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine are two which are responsible for the majority of the Kratom functions. Others include Akuammigine, Corynoxeine, 9-Hydroxycorynantheidine, Paynantheine, Speciogynine, Tetrahydroalstonine, and others.

The highest concentration of these alkaloids is inside the leaves. Stems and roots lack many of them. That is why Kratom manufacturers only use leaves to make Kratom powder and not any other part.

What does Kratom extraction mean?

Extraction means to take out something. When we talk about Kratom extraction, it defines to take out the abundant alkaloids from the standard Kratom powder. These alkaloids are not what you expect them to be. It may give an impression to get some chemicals out of Kratom leaves.

That type of extraction is laboratory-based and mainly used in research. When we talk about extraction Kratom alkaloids from powder, it is a residue with the purest version of alkaloids.

Can we extract Kratom alkaloids?

Usually, alkaloids are in combination with other chemical compounds. When we try to isolate the purest version of these, the result is a resin-like material that is extremely abundant with Kratom alkaloids.

Only the extra chemicals and compounds are removed in this process. It is 100% possible to get such a product from Kratom powder.

How to perform Kratom extraction?

Kratom extraction for the personal level is a primary step. You don’t even need the scientific equipment to perform it. Also, a user can make it on at home.

They are commercially available, but being a non-natural product, they have a high price. It is not affordable for all users. Hence one can always try making his extraction product at home.

There are multiple types of extracts that you can make. All of these have abundant Kratom alkaloids in it. Here are a few options to try.

  1. Water-based Kratom extracts
  2. Liquid-based Kratom extracts  or Tincture
  3. Kratom resins
  4. Enhanced Kratom leaf extracts, i.e., UEI Kratom

What are water-based Kratom extracts?

The extracts which you see around you are mostly water-based. They are easy to make and soft to use. It dissolves in water in no time when you plan to use them. In commercial products, there are categories for such extracts, i.e., 5x, 10x, 20x, etc.

Can you make water-based extracts yourself?

Yes, you can make your water-based extract of Kratom, which has maximum alkaloids in it.  A minimum of 200 mg of any Kratom leaf powder can be helpful. You have to grind it so that there are no visible veins finely. Add water and make a solution of it.

Place it on a flame and let it boil along with continuous stirring. Boiling for 20-30 minutes will give you the best version of Kratom alkaloids in the residual material. Strain and filter this residue.

Re-boil this remaining material with some lemon juice for the flavor-enhancing. Repeat the boiling for 20-30 minutes and stain it. Spread the filtered material on a flat surface preferably a dish. It will take 2-3 days for the water to evaporate, leaving behind a thick semi-solid material entirely. You can mould it to make capsules or use it as it is.

This end product is the finest version on all Kratom alkaloids that you usually get in average amounts of standard strains. This extracted version is more efficient and vigorous. It only takes a little amount to get it working for the user.

What are liquid extracts?

You should not confuse water-based extracts with liquid extracts. Water-based extracts are semi sold at the end, but liquid extracts are actually in liquid form. They are also called tinctures. Tinctures are the less common type of Kratom extracts.

What are Kratom resin extracts?

Resin extracts is another semi-solid type of Kratom extract. It has the maximum availability of Kratom alkaloids in it. Usually, the solvent in resins is polar or non-polar. A trendy type of resin extract is to make it into alcohol.

Resin extracts in alcohol follow the same method as that of water-based extracts. Only the water is replaced with alcohol. In resin extracts, the effects are even more stimulatory and satisfying. You should only use alcohol which is safe for human consumption, using other alcohols such as isopropyl alcohol will induce distinct risks. (7)

What have enhanced Kratom leaves?

Another product which you may easily find at all leading Kratom stores is enhanced strains. It is a mixture of the most potent leaves, which are high in alkaloid count.

One such example is ultra enhanced Indo Kratom, which is one of the most favorite among Kratom users. It uses broad leaves of Kratom, which are alkaloid rich.

For people who find it hard to make extracted Kratom versions at home, using enhanced Kratom strains is a better option.

Concluding remarks on Kratom extraction

Kratom being the prominent tree of Southeast Asia, provides benefits through its alkaloids. These alkaloids are bioactive compounds that work for giving all medicinal and pleasuring effects. Extracting the alkaloids from standard Kratom powder is possible, which provides you with a more potent Kratom product.

One can opt for home-based extraction methods, too, which are straightforward and easy. However, you need to follow a complete protocol for it. In case one doesn’t have ample time to perform this method, many leading Kratom suppliers offer enhanced strains and extracts. You can just select an option that suits you.
